Slussen is the second busiest station in Stockholm metro. There is a central, and, without exaggeration, the most complex transport interchange near the station. It includes a bus station, a suburban railway station and the city ferry terminal. Close by are the sluices between the salty waters of the Baltic Sea and the fresh water of Mälaren Lake, that’s why the interchange and the station got the name Slussen - which means a sluice in translation.

Slussen is also a transfer hub between the green and red metro lines, so it has a very high number of passengers every day. It required an increased power supply capacity for this metro section, and necessitated construction of an additional substation.

Slussen substation includes modern 8 kA line feeders, resistant to atypically high load level. Switchgears are of an improved design. They ensure resistance to internal arcing, and thus, high safety for personnel during operation. The substation is very small in terms of area, so all the equipment is designed to occupy minimal space.

Implementation of IEC 61850 standard in the substation equipment ensures functional compatibility of various components and devices, allows optimizing of their operation processes and increases reliability of power supply. Application of IEC 61850 makes it possible to easily integrate into the control system of other levels and facilitate transition to a new innovative, more technological automation level of electrical substations.
