Pluton has successfully implemented a number of traction infrastructure modernization projects in Łódź. Reconstruction of Piotrkowska, Kęs, Wacława, and Zapolska substations, as well as Chocianowice tram depot, has been completed. All the work was done on a turnkey basis as a part of urban transport upgrade. A new project is now being implemented at Grunwaldzka substation.

Wacława and Zapolska substations were equipped with leading-edge equipment manufactured by Pluton: highly efficient rectifiers and compact 660 V DC cubicles, that not only increase reliability of power supply, but also optimize substation space usage, facilitate operation, and significantly reduce operating costs compared to outdated technologies. The substations are equipped with modern control systems based on SOTA® PLCs with IEC 61850 protocol support. Integration of the substations into MPK-Łódź Central operation control center is provided via a 5G network.

Piotrkowska and Kęs substations were modernized by retrofitting — with installation of new transformers, rectifiers, control cabinets, and upgraded medium-voltage cubicles. Comprehensive retrofitting made it possible to modernize the equipment without complete replacement, significantly reducing project implementation time and the Customer's costs.

Chocianowice depot reconstruction included the supply of retrofit sets and new equipment, taking into account the Customer's specific needs and the operating characteristics of existing substation. DC cubicles control system was replaced with SOTA® controller-based system. DC switchgear was modernized by installing additional cubicles and implementing the most advanced rectifiers and transformers.

Advanced protection technologies are being implemented at Grunwaldzka substation. In particular, AFB® arc-free ultra-high speed circuit breakers based on vacuum breaking technology have been used. AFB® circuit breakers provide a number of advantages compared to conventional arc-breaking circuit breakers, such as safety, environmental friendliness, high wear resistance, and compactness.

As a result of the implemented technical solutions, the substations have been updated to the latest standards, ensuring their high reliability, safety, and ease of operation. The reconstruction of traction substations was completed in accordance with leading industry standards and is fully consistent with the development strategy for urban transport in Łódź, aimed at improving its efficiency and environmental friendliness.
